Lui was a French adult magazine launched in Paris in November 1963 by publisher Daniel Filipacchi as a sophisticated response to Playboy . Conceived as “le magazine de l’homme moderne,” it distinguished itself through a unique blend of intellectual content and erotic photography featuring prominent French actresses like Brigitte Bardot and Mireille Darc . The magazine balanced in-depth interviews, literary contributions from figures like François Truffaut, and gastronomy columns with tastefully produced nude pictorials . This “charm à la française” formula proved highly successful through the 1970s before declining in the 1980s . After numerous relaunches and transformations, including a brief period as a pornographic publication, Lui ultimately ceased publication in March 2020
