The June 1942 issue of Astounding Science-Fiction, edited by John W. Campbell Jr. is widely considered one of the most legendary and influential single issues in the history of science fiction.
The cover, by Hubert Rogers, is iconic in its own right. It illustrates the lead story, Bridle and Saddle (the second part of Foundation), depicting a scene where a character is examining a “personal force-shield.” It’s a classic piece of Golden Age art, suggesting both technology and intrigue.
This issue contains “Bridle and Saddle” the 2nd installment (Part 2 of 3) of the Foundation by Isaac Asimov. This is the middle section of the story that would later become the cornerstone of Asimov’s Foundation Series.
Other contributors to this issue includes Lester del Rey, L. Ron Hubbard, Robert Moore Williams, Robert Arthur and more.
