Indian Sleep-Man Tales, fully titled Indian Sleep-Man Tales: Authentic Legends of the Otoe Tribe, is a book of folklore by Bernice G. Anderson, first published in 1940. The book is a compilation of traditional “night-time stories” that the author collected directly from the Otoe Tribe, based on her visits to their reservation near Red Rock, Oklahoma. These legends, often told by fathers to their sons, serve as origin stories to explain natural phenomena. Examples of the tales include stories about how the rabbit got his pink eyes, why the seasons follow one another, and how the man got into the moon.
